Our Aims
Our registered aims
1. To promote Christianity. Bibles and other Christian literature are on sale and Jacob’s Well is indeed a source of the Living Water that Jesus promised to us, the love of God that satisfies our every need.
2. To supply medical relief to those in need and to help the poor in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. Beginning in Poland, by 1987 we spread into Romania, guided by the Holy Spirit, and then into Afghanistan. The Charity Commissioners allowed us to extend our field into all Eastern Europe, Asia, Lebanon and Africa. As the Iron Curtain started to lift in 1989 we found our work moving into Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Latvia and Albania. "Glasnost" helped to smooth the path. The warehouses filled and the containers rolled.
3. To help the disabled in our own neighbourhood. The charity is a useful resource to help people who need company, a job, a sense of worthiness and to comfort them in their troubles. Nearly all our Charity workers are volunteers at present. Many of them need us as much as we need them.
4. To promote and support medical research and facilitate the work of researchers of which the results of such research will be made publicly available. Jacob’s Well has supported research facilities in Kiev and arranged collaborative working and visits to England for a researcher from Kiev.
5. To promote and advance education and facilitate teaching. Over the years Jacob’s Well has sponsored a Ph.D student and 2 undergraduates from Eastern Europe who have successfully completed their courses and gone on to undertake professional work. Exchange visits have been arranged between English and Polish school teachers. General educational supplies, computers and medical books & journals are sent to Eastern Europe and Afghanistan.
